The Santa Clara Planning Commission took a stand against data centers on March 6, refusing to approve a conditional use permit for 2805 Bowers Avenue. The permit would have allowed the developer to knock down a two-story building on the property and build a new four-story data center. Two of the seven members of the Planning Commission, Eric Crutchlow and Qian Huang, were not present at the meeting. Read complete news at svvoice.com.

You can always count on the Santa Clara Players (SCP) to tickle your funny bone with an offbeat—and often little-known—comedy. “A Bad Year for Tomatoes,” which premiered in Ohio in 1974, runs Feb. 23 – March 16. “Directing this wacky, funny show with this talented cast has been a joy,” said Gilroy resident Bill Starr, a seasoned Bay Area director doing his second gig for Santa Clara Players. While living in New York City, he acted in 18 Broadway shows. Read complete news at svvoice.com.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma is optimistic about getting 20 wickets

The stand-in skipper of South Africa, Dean Elgar, won the toss and chose to bat first in the second Test at Cape Town.

One of the main reasons for the Indian cricket team to lose the first Test was their poor batting in the Centurion first innings, where they could only get 245 in tough conditions. While the toss played its part there, it remains to be seen if that will be a factor in the India vs. South Africa second Test.

On Wednesday, captain Rohit Sharma once again lost the toss and was asked to bowl first, on a pitch that looked decent for batting. After the toss, Rohit said, “I would’ve batted first as well. It looks like a good pitch. We understand the challenge of batting first on that pitch, but nevertheless, there will be enough on the pitch for the seamers, so hopefully we’ll cash in on it.

Rohit added that it was important to move on from the first Test defeat and focus on getting 20 wickets. He said, “It is important to forget what’s happened in the past. We understand the importance of getting runs on the board and getting 20 wickets. It didn’t happen in the first game, but we’re upbeat about what we can achieve here. We have made two changes. Ravindra Jadeja comes back for R. Ashwin; Shardul Thakur misses out; Mukesh Kumar replaces him.”

West Indies beat England in a T20I series led by Shai Hope

West Indies won their third straight T20 international series in 2023, as they prepare to co-host the World Cup for the shortest format in June.

West Indies beat England by four wickets and won the T20I series 3-2 because to Shai Hope’s unbeaten 43. England were bowled out for 132 in the decider, and while the West Indies never got into a groove, Hope held their response together and then won the game with a booming six over extra-cover off the second ball of the final over. West Indies won their third straight T20 international series in 2023, as they prepare to co-host the World Cup for the shortest format in June.

It was a sad finale to the mini-tour for England, who had already lost the 50-over series in the Caribbean 2-1.

The low-scoring game contrasted sharply with England’s team-record 267 on Tuesday, but with the conditions favoring the spinners, West Indies were able to add to their T20i series victories over South Africa and India.

The Brian Lara Academy’s surface aided spinners, and slow left-armer Gudakesh Motie took full advantage, scooping up three wickets for 24 runs in four overs.

Akeal Hosein, the West Indies’ other left-arm orthodox spinner, contributed two for 20 in four overs as the hosts limited England to the lowest mark recorded in the series.

Buttler was dismissed for 11 after he went outside the off-stump and attempted to turn seamer Jason Holder down the leg-side but was caught by Oshane Thomas.

Hosein next bowled Jacks with a magnificent delivery before Motie got a huge turn and won the reward wicket of Phil Salt (38).

Salt had produced quick century in both of England’s last two games as they rallied to tie the series at 2-2.

Moeen Ali was aggressive before being caught by a teamwork catch with Andre Russell sending the ball to skipper Rovman Powell as he moved towards the boundary rope.

Sam Curran was caught by Sherfane Rutherford off Holder with three balls remained in England’s 20-over innings.

The home side’s reply got off to a fast start, with 20 off the first two overs before Brandon King was bowled by Topley, and there was optimism for England when Woakes bowled Nichola Pooran.

But Sherfane Rutherford (30) and Hope put up a 41-run stand that helped England apply late pressure after Rashid removed Rutherford and Powell was bowled by Topley in the 17th over.

Sam Curran, the West Indies’ left-arm seamer, delivered an outstanding penultimate over, dismissing Andre Russell and giving only two runs to leave the West Indies needing nine runs off the final over.

Cameron Green Australia’s all-rounder is suffering from chronic kidney illness

Doctors told the parents of the 24-year-old that he might not live past the age of twelve after diagnosing him with the illness at birth.

Green was part of the Australian team that won the World Cup recently and has since continued to play for his country in all three formats.

Green said to Channel 7 that “I’m still trying to learn as much as I can about it.”

My kidneys basically don’t filter the blood very effectively and don’t function as well as other people’s kidneys do.

Although it’s not ideal for a cricket player, I have to keep my protein and salt intake relatively low. However, because I spend so much of my time on the field during games, I can increase my protein intake.

“I have always done everything right, eating and drinking in a professional way so I did have to make that quite clear, but it is a work in progress,” he explained.

“There’s always a chance that if I don’t take care of myself properly, this could progress from stage two to stage five.”

“The kidneys do not heal; it is a regressive disease; they are unable to repair themselves.” So, if you don’t look after them, it can grow worse – maybe not in a few of months, but certainly over years.”

The issue was discovered during Green’s mother’s 19-week scan, and there were major concerns about his life expectancy.

“At the time, it was uncharted territory as such, and the prognosis wasn’t great,” Green’s father, Gary, said.

“There were life expectancy issues that he might not expect to live past 12 years of age.”

Green, on the other hand, has not been slowed by the disease and has played 24 Tests, 23 One-Day Internationals, and eight T20 Internationals since making his Australia debut in 2020.

“With the profile I’ve got, I just felt like it was important, and if I can help just one person with raising this awareness then it’s worth it,” he told reporters.

“It never really affected me physically, but one of the symptoms was a lot of cramping.”

Through Abu Dhabi T10 Rilee Rossouw eyes big bucks and South Africa comeback

South Africa’s player Rilee Rossouw, who is representing the Delhi Bulls in the Abu Dhabi T10, is hoping for a bidding war in the IPL auction on December 19.

In the last year’s auction, there was a two-way battle between the Delhi Capitals and the Rajasthan Royals for Rilee Rossouw. It was the Capitals who prevailed. They managed to rope in the attacking South African batter for ₹4.60 crore, more than double his base price of ₹2 crore. The return of Rossouw to the IPL after eight years, however, was not as impactful as he or even DC would have imagined. 209 runs in nine outings at a strike rate of 148 was not bad, but it wasn’t enough to make DC win regularly.

Rossouw said, “Don’t have a particular thing in mind. I think the Delhi Capitals were really good to me last year. We had a solid camaraderie around the team. But in saying that, I did well with the Knights team in the American League. So it would be nice if it were a little bit of a bidding war. I mean, that would be ideal for myself.”

He further added, “I think IPL does everything on a bigger canvas. Everything’s bigger and better there, as they say. It’s just glamorous from the outside. They spend so much money on marketing to get fans, which is fantastic to see as a player. The fans love their cricket. So it’s fantastic to see that and how it’s been consistent over what’s been like 20 years (16) of it. So it is probably one of the best leagues.”
